Coolie worldwide box office collection day 5: Rajinikanth film is his 3rd highest-grosser at Rs 403 cr, yet to beat Vikram

Rajinikanth’s latest film Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, has stormed the global box office with remarkable numbers despite facing stiff competition. Released on 14 August, the film clashed with Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s War 2, but that did little to slow its momentum. By its fifth day, Coolie had entered the coveted Rs 400 crore club, making it one of the most successful films in the superstar’s career.

According to Sun Pictures, the producers of Coolie, the film raked in Rs 404 crore gross worldwide during its opening four-day weekend. However, trade tracker Sacnilk has reported slightly different figures. By Monday (day 5), the film had collected Rs 206.50 crore net and Rs 244.55 crore gross in India. When combined with its Rs 157.45 crore overseas earnings, the total worldwide collection stands at an impressive Rs 403 crore.

This performance cements Coolie as Rajinikanth’s third-highest-grossing film to date. The top spot in his career remains 2.0 (2018), which earned Rs 691 crore worldwide, followed by Jailer (2023) with a lifetime gross of Rs 604.5 crore. With Rs 403 crore in just five days, Coolie has already surpassed the lifetime business of several other Rajinikanth blockbusters such as Enthiran (Rs 291 crore), Darbar (Rs 247.80 crore), and Petta (Rs 232.92 crore).

That said, the film still has some ground to cover if it wants to overtake Lokesh Kanagaraj’s earlier successes. His Leo (2023) grossed Rs 605.9 crore globally, while Vikram (2022) closed at Rs 414.43 crore. Considering Coolie is just behind Vikram within its first week, trade experts believe the Rajinikanth starrer has a strong chance to cross that mark soon. Whether it can reach the levels of Leo or Jailer will depend on how it sustains over the coming weeks.

Despite minor dips after the weekend, Coolie has shown solid hold at the box office, which is a positive sign for its long-term run. With word of mouth being largely favorable and Rajinikanth’s massive fan base ensuring repeat viewings, the film is expected to continue its winning streak through its first week.

About Coolie
Coolie follows the journey of Deva (Rajinikanth), a former union leader who sets out to uncover the mystery behind the sudden death of his close friend Rajasekhar (Sathyaraj). His quest brings him face-to-face with gangster Simon (Nagarjuna) and his trusted aide Dayal (Soubin Shahir). The ensemble cast also features Shruti Haasan, Rachita Ram, Upendra, and Aamir Khan. Unlike Lokesh’s recent ventures, the film stands outside his popular cinematic universe.
