Chris Martin isn’t letting a little controversy stop him from having fun with Coldplay fans. The singer confirmed that the band will continue using the beloved “kiss cam” at their shows, even after it unexpectedly became front-page news thanks to a very public cheating scandal.

At Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres World Tour stop in Hull, England, Martin addressed the audience with his usual warmth. “We’ve been doing [the Jumbotron] a long time, and it is only recently that it became a … yeah,” he admitted with a smile, according to HullLive.

“Life throws you lemons and you’ve got to make lemonade. So, we are going to keep doing it because we are going to meet some of you.” He added.

The moment he referred to unfolded last month in Massachusetts, when the kiss cam landed on Andy Byron, then-CEO of Astronomer, and the company’s former HR head Kristin Cabot. Instead of just sharing an innocent laugh, the two were caught looking rather cosy.

Martin tried to lighten the moment on stage, joking: “Whoa, look at these two. Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.” But as the pair ducked out of view, rumours quickly swirled. It later emerged that both Byron and Cabot were married to other people.

The video spread online within hours, and the repercussions were quick. Byron’s wife, Megan, removed his name from her social media before deleting her account altogether, while Cabot was spotted without her wedding ring shortly after.

Astronomer placed the pair on leave as an investigation was launched, and Byron resigned within a day. The company didn’t mince words either, stating: “Leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability. Recently, that standard was not met.”

Back in Hull, Martin kept things light by chatting with fans and reading out signs. One audience member had proudly attended three Coldplay shows in just three months. Martin recognised them instantly: “You were at that Boston gig. Well, OK, thank you for coming again after that debacle.”
