Korean actress Im Yoona has solidified her status as an OTT Queen with the massive success of her latest Netflix series, Bon Appétit, Your Majesty. Following the triumph of her 2023 hit King The Land, Yoona, alongside co-star Lee Chae-Min, once again dominated the streamer's viewership charts with the historical-fantasy-romance drama.
Bon Appétit, Your Majesty captivated audiences with its unique premise: Yeon Ji-Young, a talented French-trained chef, time travels to the Joseon Dynasty. She finds herself navigating the perilous role of royal chef for the tyrannical, yet gourmand, King Yi-Heon.
The show's core appeal lies in the amusing and intriguing juxtaposition of modern culinary techniques and Joseon-era palace life, a theme that deeply resonated with viewers.
The show concluded its run on September 28, achieving its highest-ever ratings and securing the top spot across all channels in its time slot.
In a recent interview with Allkpop, Yoona expressed her genuine surprise and gratitude for the overwhelming reception. "Since the ratings have been good every episode, I’ve been surprised every day and every week," she admitted. "Ratings feel like something beyond my control, so I didn’t have any specific expectations. I never imagined such a big response and result."
Despite the happy reunion that closed the series, the finale sparked debate among fans. While many found the ending "wholesome," others felt the open-ended nature, particularly the unexplained manner of King Yi-Heon's arrival in modern-day Seoul, left room for more story.
Addressing the conclusion, Yoona shared her satisfaction, stating, "I’m satisfied. I think it’s the ending everyone dreams of. It seems like a beautiful conclusion."
However, the ambiguous ending has fueled strong demand and speculation for a second season. When asked about a potential sequel, Yoona offered a promising yet cautious response. "I haven’t heard anything about season 2 yet," she revealed. Enthusiastically, she added, "If the story continues and all the actors can come back together, I would love to do it."
The fate of Bon Appétit, Your Majesty Season 2 now rests with the production house and Netflix, but the star power and audience appetite are clearly there.
