The inheritance dispute surrounding late businessman Sunjay Kapur has escalated in dramatic fashion.

Karisma Kapoor's children have accused Priya Kapur of giving them “Cinderella stepmother” treatment, claiming she shifted assets to her own children while restricting their shares.

Senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, representing Karisma Kapoor's children, told the court that the newly surfaced will is “a manifestly forged document” and part of a larger conspiracy. He emphasized that there is enough evidence to lodge a criminal complaint.

"You got to know about the will from the witnesses and one day prior to the reading," Jethmalani said, referring to the fact that Karisma Kapoor's children were not informed about the will until July 30, even though it was executed on March 21.

He further highlighted that the executor, a close friend of Sunjay Kapur, had never been informed of her appointment, calling it suspicious for someone as educated as Sanjay Kapur to not seek the executor's permission beforehand.

Breach of Fiduciary Duty

Jethmalani accused Priya Kapur of breaching her fiduciary duty and violating the trust by breaking confidentiality. Court documents revealed that Priya Kapur was focusing on her personal assets while assuring the plaintiffs that money was being allocated to them but without full disclosure. She received roughly 60% of the assets, around 12% to her son, and 75% of the trust.

"This is a Cinderella stepmother," Jethmalani said in court, criticizing Priya Kapur’s attempts to upload beneficiary forms and allocate shares hurriedly, restricting Karisma Kapoor's children's inheritance.

Court Proceedings and Document Leaks

Priya Kapur's counsel requested an investigation into leaks of documents to the media, while counsel for Rani Kapur emphasized that an inquiry was needed to determine the source of these leaks. The court noted that the mere indication of leaks was sufficient for consideration.

Karisma Kapoor's children, through their lawyer, sought a status quo on all assets to prevent further transfer or creation of third-party rights.

Jethmalani stated, "While our immediate prayer is for status quo, Priya Kapur’s conduct speaks volumes and raises serious concerns about her entitlement to possess these assets."
