Farah Khan pokes fun at Deepika Padukone’s eight-hour shift remark: “Voh ab sirf 8 ghanta shoot karti hai”

Deepika Padukone has been making headlines recently—not for her films, but for setting new work boundaries, leaving fans curious. Playfully joining the chatter, Farah Khan joked in a cooking vlog that even Deepika took longer to say yes than Rohit Saraf’s mother did on camera.

Bollywood favourite Deepika Padukone has been at the centre of attention lately, but not for her on-screen roles. Instead, it’s her work commitments that have sparked endless conversations.

Earlier this year, she stepped away from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit, reportedly because she wanted her shooting days capped at eight hours. Soon after, she also bowed out of Kalki 2898 AD, leaving fans stunned and fuelling rumours about her “new rules” for work.

Amidst the buzz, filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan decided to poke a little fun. In her cooking vlog, she dropped by Rohit Saraf’s home with her chef, Dilip.

Rohit revealed that his mother was appearing on camera for the first time, after making them wait a whole year. Farah hugged her warmly and joked, “Haan itna time toh Deepika Padukone ne nahi lagaya mujhe haan bolne mein.”

The laughs didn’t stop there. When Dilip asked, “Deepika Padukone ma’am kab aayengi humare show main (when will Deepika ma’am come to our show)?” Farah quickly quipped, “jiss din tu gaon jaayega naa uss din aayegi (the day you go to your village).” With a twinkle in her eye, she added, “Deepika Padukone ab sirf 8 ghanta shoot karti hai, usko show pe aane ka time nahi hai (She now shoots only for 8 hours, she doesn’t have time to come to our show).”

Behind the jokes lies a more personal story. In September 2024, Deepika and Ranveer Singh welcomed their daughter, Dua, into the world. Rumours of her walking out of Spirit started to garner media attention by May 2025.

Stories circulated about her asking for a share of profits, an eight-hour day, and overtime pay for extended schedules. While some labelled her “difficult,” a source close to her stressed these were perfectly reasonable demands for a global star balancing new motherhood.

The makers of Kalki 2898 AD later confirmed her exit, saying, “Despite the long journey of making the first film, we were unable to find a partnership… We wish her the best with her future works.” Reports suggested fee hikes and shorter shifts may have played a role.

Instead of addressing the criticism directly, Deepika has chosen to focus on what’s next. She’s teaming up with Atlee and Allu Arjun for a high-octane action film, tentatively called AA22 x A6.

She’s also part of Siddharth Anand’s King, where she’ll reunite with Shah Rukh Khan, and share the screen with Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, and Jaideep Ahlawat.

For fans, it’s clear that while Deepika might be setting new boundaries for herself, she’s far from slowing down.
