Farah Khan opens up about early fights with Shirish Kunder; says, ‘People ignored him, the world is full of a*****es’

Farah Khan has opened up about the early struggles in her marriage with director-editor Shirish Kunder. She revealed how social dynamics and public behaviour once caused friction between them.

On Sania Mirza’s podcast Serving It Up With Sania, Farah spoke candidly about how people’s attitudes at parties often made her husband feel uncomfortable.

Reflecting on their early years together, Farah said, “It was very challenging in the beginning. We used to have a lot of fights when I would force him to come out with me.” She admitted that while she enjoyed socialising, the treatment Shirish received at gatherings made him uneasy.

According to Farah, people would often ignore Shirish in social settings, focusing solely on her because of her higher visibility and success in the industry. “Not just the industry, the world is full of a*****es, so they will always hone in on the person who is more successful at that point,” she said. “They would only talk to me and ignore my husband, and I didn’t like that, and he didn’t either.”

Eventually, the couple decided to prioritise comfort and peace over appearances. “After a point, we came to an agreement that if you are uncomfortable coming out with this set of people, then don’t come. I want him to be happy and at peace,” Farah explained.

Farah also discussed why she and Shirish prefer to keep their personal life private. “We know we are secure in our marriage and we don’t need to hold hands on the red carpet,” she said, adding with her trademark wit, “Sometimes, I feel that the more people are holding hands on the red carpet, something is brewing.”

Farah and Shirish’s love story began in the early 2000s when he worked as the editor of her directorial debut Main Hoon Na. They married in 2004 and welcomed triplets Diva, Anya, and Czar in 2008. Over the years, they’ve collaborated on several projects, including Om Shanti Om, Tees Maar Khan, and Jaan-E-Mann.

Farah’s last directorial venture was Happy New Year (2014). She recently hosted Celebrity MasterChef India and continues to entertain fans with her YouTube series featuring celebrity guests and her cook Dileep.
