Jennie talks about her Coachella debut

A history moment in music history occurred at Coachella 2025 when Jennie from BLACKPINK made her eagerly awaited solo debut, electrifying the legendary Empire Polo Club in California.

The international festival, which took place over two weekends in April, brought thousands of music fans to the desert to see incredible performances, and Jennie was one of them. The 29-year-old K-pop star made her stage debut as a solo performer, delivering a set full of passion, accuracy, and presence—a major turning point in her career.

On Wednesday, May 7, almost a month after her thrilling performance, Jennie made an appearance on the well-known South Korean chat show You Quiz on the Block, where she opened up about her Coachella experience. She disclosed that she spent 16 months honing every element of the performance, demonstrating the extent of the preparation required.

Jennie, as quoted by Soompi, explained, “It’s one of the biggest music festivals in the world. It runs for two weeks. From Friday to Sunday, countless artists gather in the middle of the desert for this festival.”

Despite the excitement, Jennie admitted to feeling uncertain before the event. Facing a massive crowd of 250,000 festival-goers, she questioned whether people would actually show up for her. “Even while I was on stage, I was surprised by the energy. I don’t know why I felt so emotional. It felt like I was being rewarded for all the determination that went into the preparation," she said. “Before the performance, I wondered, ‘Will people come to watch?’ But looking out from the stage, there was no end in sight."

When asked if she had rewatched her performance, Jennie confessed to viewing it twice—unusual for her. “I normally don’t monitor myself much. I tend to overthink… But I did watch a bit of Coachella. Not because it was perfect but because I sincerely gave it my all.”

Fan favourites Zen, Handlebars, Mantra, and the stirring anthem Like JENNIE were among the songs from her new album Ruby that she performed as a solo artist.
