Belgian actress Emilie Dequenne, known for Dardenne Brothers' film Rosetta, died on Sunday, March 16. She was 43 year-old. She was battling with a rare cancer. Emilie’s family and her agents confirmed the news of her death.
According to news agency AFP, Emilie was in the hospital outside Paris. Emilie was suffering from adrenocortical carcinoma, a cancer of the adrenal gland. She revealed her cancer diagnosis in October 2023.
However, Emilie’s last social media post was a birthday tribute to her partner, Michel Ferracci. She shared a cozy photo with her partner on Instagram and expressed gratitude for his constant support. She wrote in the caption, “To all those who love themselves... who loved each other and will love each other… Happy birthday!”
The actress added, “My Valentine, how lucky I am to have you every day by my side. And how proud I am of you. Loved you love you and I will love you ... @michelferracci MY LIFE.” She concluded the post while writing, “Thank you @patrickfouque for this beautiful photo.”
For the unaware, Emily made her acting debut with the Dardenne brothers' film, Rosetta. She won the best actress award at the Cannes Film Festival for her performance. She also won the Golden Palm.

The late actress won several accolades for her roles in French-language films like The Girl on the Train and Our Children. In 2024, she returned to the Cannes film festival to celebrate 25 years since her first win and promote her new English-language disaster movie, Survive. The film marked the last time she starred before illness forced her to stop working.
