Actor Anupam Kher shared his thoughts on the moral dilemma of signing a Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) order, reflecting on his personal experience. He recounted a difficult time when his father was unwell for 3-4 months, and the doctors asked him to sign the DNR.
Anupam shared " When my father was unwell for 3 – 4 months and finally when doctors told me to take him back home, I was asked to sign the DNR but we took the other advice of bringing my dad home. It is a difficult situation, too difficult question to answer because you don’t want to imagine yourself in that situation."
"There are so many situations one can think about but this is one situation I will avoid thinking about as they are tough. But I did meet in one of my morning walks a gentleman who said something which was sort of closer to the truth. He said that my wife died 2 months back and they were married for sixty years and the children said let’s make her misery less because she is suffering which he understood was the truth but it was still difficult for him to decide to giving the sign on DNR." he added
When discussing his collaboration with director Gajendra Ahire, Anupam said "Gajendra is a very fine, sensitive writer and director. He’s an excellent writer, and since he had worked on this film before, we wanted to adjust the interpretation slightly. Instead of focusing on a regional audience, we aimed to appeal to a global one."
"The film is now screened in 190 countries on ZEE5 Global. We discussed how to make it more universally relatable because The Signature deals with issues that are relevant everywhere, whether in Poland, France, Germany, Japan, or China. The problem it addresses is universal. Gajendra, being a confident director, was open to suggestions when he found them valuable." he added.
Their collaboration resulted in a film that touches on universally relevant themes, and Anupam appreciated Ahire’s skill in crafting a story that speaks to a global audience.
