AMMA: Shwetha Menon to unlearn what she learnt from Mohanlal; to prioritise women’s safety first

Menon added that she has always been a part of AMMA, but this is her first time in charge.

Shwetha Menon is the first woman to be president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), making her the first woman to do so. Menon was elected on August 15 and will take over a post that was previously held by well-known actors like Mohanlal, Mammootty, and Innocent. This is a big change in the leadership of the actors' group.

A Historic Event

Menon added that she has always been a part of AMMA, but this is her first time in charge. She thought back on her path and remembered working for prior presidents like Mohanlal and Mammootty. "We've all learned a lot from them." But now I think it's time to forget some things, make some changes, and move on with this. "At the very least, I have to make sure AMMA doesn't fall apart," she said.

Menon also talked about Mohanlal's departure as president, which happened after the Hema Committee report on problems in the Malayalam cinema industry. She mentioned that the famous person might have quit because he felt like he had to. "It was a shocking time for everyone." It was really strange for Lalettan to quit. "He's not the type to give up easily, and I'm sure he felt trapped, even if he didn't say it out loud," she said.

A Role of Commitment, Not Benefits

Menon talked about how selfless the labor was, even though the job was prestigious. "There's no pay scale, no benefits—just a promise." She said, "The work at AMMA is all about service," and she added that her goal is to make the organization stronger, not to enjoy the fact that she was elected.

Going Forward

Menon downplayed the idea of making history, even though her appointment has been called a historic occasion for women in the Malayalam cinema industry. "I didn't come here to change history; that's not what I'm here for. "People will always try to bring you down, and honestly, there's not much you can do about it," she remarked.
