Actor Akshay Kumar has expressed his hope that both the British government and King Charles will watch his upcoming film Kesari Chapter 2 and come to terms with the historical wrongs of the past.
Speaking at a press conference for the film, Akshay shared how the story is deeply personal to him, as he grew up hearing accounts of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre from his father and grandfather.
In Kesari Chapter 2, Akshay portrays C Sankaran Nair, the prominent Indian lawyer who boldly took on the British Empire by legally challenging General Dyer after the horrific 1919 massacre in Amritsar.
Recalling the personal connection, Akshay said, “My grandfather witnessed the entire Jallianwala Bagh incident. He had told stories to my father about this, and my father told me. I have known a lot about the massacre since I was a child, so the film is very special to me. The event has been etched in my mind always... The most surprising thing was history doesn’t tell us what we actually need to know.”
The actor went on to underline that his intention isn’t to demand an apology, but to ignite awareness. “I'm not here with a begging bowl to say, ‘They should say sorry’. I want them to at least watch this movie and realise the mistake. Other things will flow automatically from their mouth. The apology is bound to happen, it will flow on its own. But I want them to watch this film. I want the British government and King Charles to watch this film. They should see what happened. The rest will follow automatically.”

The trailer for Kesari Chapter 2—which dropped earlier this month—offers a powerful preview of the emotional courtroom drama and the haunting aftermath of the massacre. The film also features Ananya Panday as a young law student and R Madhavan in the role of Neville McKinley.
Directed by Abhishek Sharma, Kesari Chapter 2 is scheduled for a nationwide release on 18 April.
