A man, believed to be the main suspect, was apprehended in Thane early on Sunday for allegedly assaulting actor Saif Ali Khan at his Bandra residence on Thursday, according to Mumbai Police. Additional intriguing details about the suspect have since emerged.
According to Mumbai Police, the suspect is known by several aliases, including Vijay Das, Bijoy Das, and Mohammed Iliyas. It was also revealed that he had worked at a pub in the past. The only other information available about him comes from official statements given by Saif Ali Khan's wife, actress Kareena Kapoor, and their maid, Eliyamma Philips.
The maid, who was the first to notice the suspect in the building, described him as "skinny," "dark-complexioned," "in his late 30s," and "about five feet five inches tall." Kareena Kapoor referred to him as being "very aggressive." CCTV footage from the building captures the accused climbing the staircase with his face concealed by a scarf. He is later seen leaving the building, this time with his face uncovered.
The suspect was later captured on CCTV boarding a local train at the nearby Bandra station. He was also seen purchasing earphones near Dadar station. According to Mumbai Police, the accused will be presented before the court today for remand.
The incident, which resulted in stab wounds to the actor's thoracic spine, took place when an intruder allegedly confronted Saif Ali Khan's maid in the early hours of Thursday.
Saif, trying to intervene, was attacked, resulting in a violent altercation. He was promptly rushed to Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital for treatment after suffering severe injuries.

Saif Ali Khan's condition has improved, and he has been transferred from the ICU to a regular room, according to hospital officials. The surgery to remove a 2.5-inch-long blade was successful, and although he is now "out of danger," medical staff are still closely monitoring his health.
Saif Ali Khan's family, including his wife Kareena Kapoor, sister-in-law Karisma Kapoor, children Ibrahim Ali Khan and Sara Ali Khan, as well as his sisters Soha and Saba Ali Khan, and mother Sharmila Tagore, were seen visiting him at Lilavati Hospital.
