Aamir Khan reveals his role in Sitaare Zameen Par

Aamir Khan has finally discussed his upcoming big-screen project, Sitaare Zameen Par, following a protracted period of conjecture.

The actor gave a sneak peek at the upcoming movie, which he refers to as a “thematic sequel” to his beloved 2007 classic Taare Zameen Par, in a recent conversation with his Chinese fan club, a video of which was posted on social media site X.

“I’m working on Sitaare Zameen Par right now. It’s almost ready," Aamir revealed. “It’s not a direct sequel to Taare Zameen Par, but thematically, it goes ten steps ahead. While Taare Zameen Par made you cry, this one will make you laugh. It’s a comedy, but with the same underlying message—it’s about love, friendship, and the lives of people who are differently abled."

Unlike his gentle and inspiring portrayal of art teacher Ram Shankar Nikumbh in Taare Zameen Par, Aamir’s new character in Sitaare Zameen Par promises to be strikingly different. “This time I play Gulshan—a man who is the complete opposite of Nikumbh. He’s brash, politically incorrect, and insults everyone. He fights with his wife, his mother, and even beats up his senior coach. He’s a basketball coach with deep-rooted internal issues. The story is about how he transforms through his interactions with people on the spectrum, and learns what it means to be truly human."

Sitaare Zameen Par, which is directed by RS Prasanna of Shubh Mangal Saavdhan fame, is an official adaptation of the highly regarded Spanish sports comedy Champions. It centres on a disgraced basketball coach who is mandated to train a team of players with intellectual disabilities.

Fans are already anticipating the film, even though an official release date has not yet been announced. They are hoping to see another poignant and thought-provoking tale from the actor who is known for pushing the boundaries of cinema.
