2024 Lok Sabha election in Delhi.

The Bharatiya Janata Party hopes to be lucky for the third time in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The party has won all seven seats from Delhi in the 2014 and the 2019 elections. In the last general elections held in 2019, the BJP recorded 57% votes which was a gain of 22%.

The BJP is contesting from all seven seats in Delhi. An interesting debut to watch out for is that of Bansuri Swaraj, daughter of former Union minister Sushma Swaraj, who is contesting from the New Delhi seat. She will be pitted against veteran AAP leader Somnath Bharti.

The BJP has dropped four sitting MPs - Meenakshi Lekhi, Harsh Vardhan, Parvesh Verma and Ramesh Bidhuri.

Manoj Tiwari who has won the North East Delhi seat twice in the past has been renominated.

BJP general secretary Kamaljeet Sehrawat, former mayor, South Delhi is the party’s choice from West Delhi constituency. He replaces two-time incumbent Parvesh Verma.

Similarly, for the Chandni Chowk constituency, the BJP has replaced former Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, who had won the seat twice, with secretary of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), Praveen Khandelwal.

Ramesh Bidhuri, MP for two terms from South Delhi has been replaced by Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, the Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly.

The Aam Aadmi Party and Congress alliance via the INDIA bloc is the only opposition the BJP faces in Delhi. The Congress has seen a reduction in voter share over the past two elections and the AAP has never won a Lok Sabha seat from Delhi.

Thus, the seat sharing and alliance may not prove to be a worthy challenge to the BJP. In fact, the BJP is confident of improving its numbers and winning the polls with a larger vote share than ever before.
