The NEET UG 2025 counseling process for admissions to MBBS, BDS, and BSc Nursing courses is set to begin tomorrow, July 21, 2025. The Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) will open the registration window for Round 1, offering a pathway for qualified candidates to secure their seats in medical and dental colleges across India.

With approximately 1.18 lakh MBBS seats available across 780 medical colleges nationwide, and a staggering 12.36 lakh students having cleared the NEET UG 2025 examination, the competition is intense. This guide provides a comprehensive overview of the counselling schedule, essential documents, and key rules to navigate the admission process smoothly.

The MCC will conduct counseling in four rounds: Round 1, Round 2, Round 3, and a final Stray Vacancy Round.

Who Conducts the Counselling?

NEET UG 2025 counseling is primarily divided into two categories:

15% All India Quota (AIQ) Seats: Conducted by the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) through its official website, mcc.nic.in. This includes 100% seats of AMU, BHU, JMI, ESIC, AIIMS, JIPMER, and 15% AIQ seats in various state medical and dental colleges, along with seats in DU, IP University, VMMC, and ABVIMS.

85% State Quota (SQ) Seats: Managed by the respective State Counseling Authorities. Candidates seeking admission under their state's quota must refer to their state's official medical education directorate websites for separate counseling schedules and procedures.

Documents for Counselling:

Candidates are advised to prepare all necessary documents in advance to avoid last-minute hurdles. The essential documents for NEET UG counseling include:

  • NEET UG 2025 Admit Card and Result Scorecard
  • Class 10th Marksheet and Certificate
  • Class 12th Marksheet and Certificate
  • Birth Certificate (if not mentioned on Class 10th certificate)
  • Category Certificate (SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD, if applicable, in the prescribed format)
  • Residence/Domicile Certificate (mandatory for State Quota counseling)
  • Passport-size photographs (preferably the same as uploaded in the NEET application form)
  • Aadhaar Card or other valid Photo Identity Card
  • Provisional Allotment Letter (generated online after seat allotment)
  • Migration Certificate (if applicable, typically from the last attended board/university)
  • Medical Fitness Certificate (as per institution requirements)
Counseling Fees and Security Deposit:

A non-refundable registration fee and a refundable security amount are required during the registration process.

For 15% AIQ/Central Universities:

  • General & EWS categories: Rs. 1,000 (non-refundable fee) + Rs. 10,000 (refundable security)
  • SC, ST, OBC, PwD categories: Rs. 500 (non-refundable fee) + Rs. 5,000 (refundable security)
For Deemed Universities:
  • All categories: Rs. 5,000 (non-refundable fee) + Rs. 2,00,000 (refundable security)
Understanding the Seat Matrix:

According to the National Medical Commission (NMC), India currently has 1,18,190 MBBS seats across 780 medical colleges. The distribution of MBBS seats across states varies, with Karnataka leading with 12,545 seats, followed by Uttar Pradesh (12,475), Tamil Nadu (12,050), and Maharashtra (11,846).
