Company History - Shivaji Works
The Company was incorporated on 4th April, 1900 under the name Shree
 Shivajee Metal Works Companay Limited.  The name was changed to the
 present name i.e. Shivaji Works Limited, on 11th September, 1929. 
 Initially, the Company manufactured household utensils of brass and 
 copper. In 1934, a small cast iron foundry was commissioned.  The
 production  of agricultural implements and vices was started from
 1944 and in 1951, the manufacture of self priming pumps was
 undertaken. In 1959-60, the Company became a subsidiary of Kirloskar
 Oil Engines Limited, Pune. In 1962, a foundry with two pairs of
 cupolas was  commissioned and the machining facility was
 strengthened. By 1969, the Company had modernised its foundry and
 begun a programme of foundry expansion with installation of induction
 furnaces etc.  After 1971, efforts were concentrated to turn the
 foundry into a jobbing foundry and the manufacture of vices and pumps
 was discontinued.  The Company later diversified  and has been
 manufacturing steel and alloy steel castings since 1981, by going  in
 for Investment Casting Process in technical collaboration with M/s.
 Hitchiner Manufacturing Co. Inc., US.A. for their CLA Process.
 
 The Company's manufacturing plants are located at Shivashahi, Solapur
 in the State of Maharashtra.
 
 Presently, the Company manufactures grey iron castings conforming to
 BIS Grades from FG 150 to FG 350 and steel and alloy steel castings
 by Investment Casting Process.  The Company has a well equipped
 machine shop with modern CNC machinery which enables supply of fully
 machined castings to the reputed Original Equipment Manufacturers of
 Diesel Engines, Tractors, Commercial Vehicles and also Railways and
 Defence.  The Company also has a well equipped pattern shop to
 manufacture intricate patterns in-house.  The Company has developed
 import substitute castings for the Railways. In addition, development
 of S.G.Iron Castings has been undertaken.
 
 The management of the Company is vested in the Board of Directors
 consisting of eminent personalities from industries and professionals
 of proven track record and merit. Mr. Atul C Kirloskar who is Vice
 Chairman & Managing Director  of Kirloskar Oil Engines Limited, the
 holding Company, is the Chairman of the Company and Mr. M M
 Palvanikar, who has B.Sc.(Hons.) Diploma in Industrial Engineering
 (Germany), MIIF, FIBF, Full Technological Certificate in Foundry
 Technology by City and Guilds of London Institute. Inc.ENG; is the
 Managing Director. He has over three decades of experience in foundry
 management, projects and operations. Subject to the  superintendence,
 direction and control of the Board of Directors, the day-to-day
 operations of the Company are looked after by the Managing Director
 assisted by a team of well qualified and experienced senior
 managerial personnel.
