The wife of a Wayanad native, who was found dead in Israel in July, passed away on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at the government medical college hospital after an alleged suicide attempt.
A resident of Koleri, Reshma, 32, is said to have consumed poison at her home on Monday. Her husband, 38-year-old Jinesh P. Sukumaran from Koliyadi near Sultan Bathery, was found dead by hanging in July at Mevaseret Zion near Jerusalem, where he worked as a caregiver.
The elderly woman he was caring for was also discovered dead with multiple stab wounds. A.V. Jayan, ward member of Kenichira ward in Poothadi panchayat, said Reshma had attended several counselling sessions following the incident.
“She was struggling to cope with Jinesh’s death. When I visited her recently, I saw 10–15 framed photos of the moments she had shared with him displayed in the front room. I had assured her support in finding a job so she could move forward,” he was quoted by TOI as saying.
The couple has a 10-year-old daughter. After the postmortem at the medical college hospital, Reshma’s body was taken to Sultan Bathery taluk hospital. The funeral will be held on Thursday at the electric crematorium in Choottakadavu, Mananthavady.
Jinesh had moved to Israel in June after previously working as a medical representative in Kerala.
