Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) Vinai Kumar Saxena on Tuesday lashed out at former Delhi chief minister (CM) Arvind Kejriwal, holding him “responsible” for the capital's deteriorating air quality.
According to a report by The Times of India, in a 15-page letter to Kejriwal, LG Saxena said, “11 years of neglect and criminal inaction on you and your Government’s part are responsible for the emergency air situation in the Capital”. However, Delhi is currently governed by BJP chief minister Rekha Gupta.
The Delhi Lieutenant Governor’s letter to the former chief minister comes amid the capital’s prolonged and severe air pollution crisis, the report added. During his tenure, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal faced similarly hazardous air-quality levels and, like the BJP’s election manifesto, had promised stringent measures to tackle pollution in the city.
In February this year, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) suffered a major electoral setback, losing to the BJP and ending its rule in Delhi, allowing the saffron party to return to power after 26 years.
Following its defeat in Delhi, the AAP now governs only Punjab, where Bhagwant Mann serves as chief minister.
