River Mobility has started manufacturing the Yamaha EC-06 electric two-wheeler in Karnataka on January 12, the company said in a media statement.
Large and Medium Industries Minister M.B. Patil handed over the first locally produced bike to Yamaha at its manufacturing facility in Hosakote.
Patil visited the plant and inspected the manufacturing unit and supporting infrastructure set up for production. He said the facility will manufacture around 2,000 electric bikes every year.
The company will equip the bikes with batteries manufactured locally, which will have a running capacity of up to one lakh kilometres and a warranty of 10 years.
The minister said the start of production strengthens Karnataka’s push for local manufacturing in the electric vehicle segment.
"The project will support employment generation and create demand for skilled workers in manufacturing, engineering and allied services," Patil said.
He added that local production will also strengthen the state’s supply chain and open opportunities for small and medium enterprises that supply components and services to the EV sector.
The event brought together senior government officials and industry representatives, highlighting the collaboration between the state government and private companies in building manufacturing capacity for electric mobility.
MLA and KEONICS Chairman Sharath Bachegowda, Yamaha India President Jim Aoyama, Industries Department Commissioner Gunjan Krishna, River Mobility CEO Aravind Mani, Co-founder Vipin George and other officials attended the event.
Founded in March 2021 by Aravind Mani and Vipin George, River is backed by marquee investors such as Yamaha Motor Co, Ltd, Dubai-based Al Futtaim group, Chris Sacca's Lowercarbon Capital, Toyota Ventures, Maniv Mobility, and Trucks VC.
