Renault India will launch the new Renault Duster in the country on March 17, with customer deliveries set to begin in April. The mid-size SUV was unveiled on January 26 as part of the company's renewed product push under its International Game Plan 2027.
The Indian arm of the French carmaker also offers models like the Kwid entry-hatchback, Triber sub-4 metre MPV and Kiger sub-4 metre SUV. For reference, the Duster arrived in India in 2012, pioneering the mid-size SUV segment in the country.
The new generation Duster (third generation) is built on the Renault Group Modular Platform (RGMP). The platform has been engineered for extreme conditions and is validated for endurance, climate resistance and 5-star safety standards. Although the Duster has always been known for its rugged character, the new model does get 4X4 capability.
Powertrain options include the Turbo TCe 160 petrol engine producing 163PS and 280Nm, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed DCT with wet clutch. The Turbo TCe 100 petrol motor, developing 100PS and 160Nm, serves as the accessible turbo petrol option with a 6-speed manual transmission. Renault will also introduce the Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160, based on a 1.8-litre engine with a 1.4kWh battery, offering up to 80% electric drive in city conditions. Hybrid deliveries are scheduled to commence during Diwali 2026.
With hybrids gaining traction, albeit at a slow pace, the introduction of a hybrid powertrain in the new Renault Duster is surely going to attract additional buyers.
In terms of dimensions, the SUV measures 4,346mm in length, 1,815mm in width and 1,703mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,657mm and ground clearance of 212mm. It offers approach and departure angles of 26.9 degrees and 34.7 degrees, respectively.
Technology features include a 10.1-inch OpenR Link multimedia system with Google built-in, a 10.25-inch TFT driver display, 60+ connected features, and 17 ADAS functions. Comfort features include ventilated front seats, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, electric parking brake with auto-hold and an electric powered tailgate.
The SUV will be offered with a warranty of up to seven years or 1,50,000km under the Renault Forever programme. Customers can pre-book the vehicle by purchasing an R Pass for Rs 21,000, which offers priority delivery and special introductory pricing.
We expect the 2026 Renault Duster price in India to be between Rs 9.50 lakh (ex-showroom) and Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). The SUV will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Tata Sierra, Tata Curvv, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun and MG Astor.
