Renault has officially unveiled the Renault Duster 2026 in India, marking the return of a nameplate that helped shape the mid-size SUV segment more than a decade ago. Launched in the country in 2012, the vehicle was discontinued in 2022. In its fresh avatar, the Duster seems to have transformed from a rugged SUV to a more sophisticated, feature-rich and technology-led product.

Built on the new Renault Group Modular Platform (RGMP), the Duster 2026 is claimed to have nearly 90% India-specific components and has been engineered for five-star safety standards. Although the company offers models like the Kwid hatchback, Triber MPV and Kiger SUV, they have not yet been tested at Bharat NCAP. If the new Duster scores a five-star safety rating at Bharat NCAP, it is sure to attract additional buyers as safety has become a crucial consideration for them now.

Under the hood, the Duster 2026 offers three engine options. The headline powertrain is the Turbo TCe 160 petrol engine, producing 163PS and 280Nm, paired with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed dual-clutch automatic (DCT). A Turbo TCe 100 petrol engine serves as a more accessible option with a six-speed manual gearbox. The biggest addition is the Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 system, which combines a 1.8-litre petrol engine with a 1.4kWh battery, offering up to 80% electric-only driving in city conditions. Hybrid deliveries are scheduled to begin around Diwali 2026.

The new Duster does not offer any naturally aspirated petrol engine and this could, somewhat, play against it as the demand for naturally aspirated petrol mills is still very high in India. Many believe that naturally aspirated petrol engines offer better mileage than a turbo petrol motor. If you see the mid-size SUV segment in India, all the top models like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Maruti Suzuki Victoris and the recently-launched Tata Sierra get a naturally aspirated petrol engine.

That said, the addition of a hybrid powertrain is a timely and welcome step. Demand for hybrids is steadily rising in India, driven by fuel efficiency concerns and the lack of widespread EV charging infrastructure. The Renault Duster hybrid is likely to appeal to buyers prioritising better real-world mileage and lower running costs, especially in urban driving conditions.

Renault Duster 2026 Panoramic Sunroof

While the old Duster was all about ruggedness, the Duster 2026 combines muscularity with sophistication. There is no all-wheel-drive (AWD) option. Only time will tell whether this is a hit or a miss. But the SUV gets 212mm ground clearance and 18-inch alloy wheels, which should help it handle rough roads, broken surfaces and mild off-road conditions with confidence. Strong approach and departure angles (26.9° and 34.7°) do support its positioning as a capable soft-roader, but not a hardcore off-road SUV.

Renault Duster 2026 Cabin

Renault has been diligent enough to add to the new Duster most of the features that buyers expect a mid-size SUV to have. There is a trapezoidal grille, full-LED lighting, yellow-accented Duster branding and diamond-cut alloy wheels. The cabin of the Duster 2026 is unlike you have seen in any other Renault model. It is definitely a big leap, offering bells and whistles like front ventilated seats, premium leatherette upholstery with yellow stitching, dual-zone climate control, 6-speaker Arkamys sound system, wireless charging, electronic shifter, powered tailgate and panoramic sunroof.

Renault Duster 2026 Front Seats

A major highlight is the OpenR Link touch infotainment system (10.1-inch) with Google built-in, making the Renault Duster 2026 one of the first mass-market cars in India to offer native Google Maps, Google Assistant, Play Store access, and connected services without relying on smartphone pairing. What this means is you can actually use navigation, voice commands, app-based services and many more features without connecting your smartphone with the SUV. Additionally, a digital driver display (10.25-inch) mirrors navigation and vehicle data, while over 60 connected features and 17 ADAS functions enhance convenience and safety.

Renault Duster 2026 Interior

Renault is offering up to seven years or 1,50,000km warranty under its Renault Forever programme. This is a smart move as it will give the buyers of the Duster 2026 relatively greater long-term ownership confidence.

The Renault Duster India bookings have opened via an R Pass priced at Rs 21,000, which provides priority delivery, special introductory pricing, merchandise and factory visit access. Renault Duster 2026 bookings are currently live, with prices expected to be announced in mid-March 2026. Customer deliveries are planned to begin in April 2026, while the delivery of the hybrid variants will start around Diwali 2026.

We expect the Renault Duster 2026 price in India to start around Rs 9.50 lakh (ex-showroom) and go up to Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). We expect Renault to undercut rival models in the mid-size SUV segment with the introductory pricing of the new Duster. However, the Renault Duster 2026 on-road price will ultimately determine how effectively it strengthens its position in its segment.
