The Tata Nexon was not only the largest-selling SUV but the overall best-selling car in India in October 2025.

The SUV segment continued its robust run, enhancing its share in the passenger vehicle (PV) volumes in the domestic market in October 2025, fuelled by a strong demand for models like the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Creta, Mahindra Scorpio, Maruti Suzuki Fronx and Tata Punch, in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) 2.0 regime and festive surge.

The domestic PV wholesales jumped 17.23% year-on-year (y-o-y) to 4,70,227 units in October 2025 from 4,01,105 units in October 2024, according to industry data. This was the best-ever domestic PV monthly volumes, beating the previous record of 4,05,522 units in January 2025.

In October 2025, the SUV segment contributed 57% to the domestic PV volumes. For the festive months of September and October 2025, the cumulative share was similar at 56.9%. In comparison, the share was 54% for the period from January to August 2025.

The major driver of demand in the Indian market continued to be the Nexon as it not only emerged as the largest-selling SUV but the overall best-selling car in the country for the second month in a row in October 2025 at 22,083 units.

In the SUV segment, the Nexon was followed by the Creta, which garnered wholesales of 18,381 units. The Scorpio, including N and Classic, was next at 17,880 units. While the Fronx posted volumes of 17,003 units, the Punch clocked 16,810 units.

Mahindra launched the new Bolero and the new Bolero Neo in October 2025. Their popularity, predominantly in the rural areas, can be gauged from the fact that their cumulative wholesales stood at 13,755 units during the month.

Although Kia's Syros has had an underwhelming performance till now, the carmaker's more established nameplate, the Sonet, had an overwhelming outing, breaching 12,000 units-milestone at 12,745 units.

For Mahindra's XUV 3XO, it was business as usual as it registered volumes of 12,237 units. Due to some production constraints, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza could post only 12,072 units, while the Hyundai Venue did 11,738 units ahead of the launch of the second-generation model on November 4.
