New MG Hector teased ahead of December 15 unveil

The 2026 MG Hector launch in India is expected to take place early next year.

JSW MG Motor India has teased the new MG Hector ahead of its unveil in the country on December 15. Initially entering the Indian market in 2019, the SUV is credited with establishing the carmaker in India.

According to JSW MG, the new Hector is more dynamic than ever and features a new grille with a fresh LED headlight set-up. It also gets a sharper stance, bolder face and stronger presence, the company claimed.

An earlier teaser gave a hint at the upcoming Hector's silhouette. It also showcased the SUV's LED taillight set-up. The new model is being unveiled at a time when the current Hector is struggling with low volumes. It clocked wholesales of merely 225 units in October 2025.

We expect the 2026 MG Hector to get several exterior and interior updates. As we have seen, JSW MG is bringing a redesigned front fascia. A new grille and a fresh LED headlight set-up has already been confirmed. We have also seen the LED taillight assembly. Moreover, we expect the SUV to get bigger 19-inch alloy wheels now.

Although the Hector is a big SUV, it has never looked very butch, like the Scorpio or for that matter the Harrier. Its design has always been on the milder side. Looking at the evolving design trends in the market, the mild character might transform into a butch avatar for the new version.

Ever since the Hector entered the Indian market, it has been known for offering a whole host of bells and whistles. It currently comes with a 14-inch touch infotainment screen, panoramic sunroof, Level 2 ADAS, 360-degree camera and over 70 connected car features. We expect the new Hector to get updates for its infotainment and instrument cluster as well as fresh tech to take on the rival brands in its segment.

So far as powertrains go, the Hector has options for turbo-petrol MT/CVT and diesel MT. The 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine delivers 143PS of maximum power and 250Nm of peak twisting force with 6-speed MT and CVT automatic choices. The 2.0-litre diesel mill is good for 170PS of maximum power and 350Nm of peak torque and comes mated to a 6-speed MT with no automatic transmission on offer. We expect the new Hector to continue with the same powertrain options.

At present, the MG Hector price in India starts at Rs 14 lakh and goes up to Rs 19.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The 2026 MG Hector price in India could be between Rs 14.50 lakh and Rs 20.50 lakh (ex-showroom). The price range is for the five-seater version only. We expect the 2026 MG Hector launch in India to take place early next year.
