The country's largest passenger vehicle (PV) manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki India, is getting ready to launch its maiden battery electric vehicle (BEV), the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, in the domestic market. Unveiled at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, the e Vitara will be sold via the carmaker's Nexa dealership network.
The e Vitara is already being exported. Till now, Maruti Suzuki has cumulatively shipped over 10,000 units of the electric SUV to nearly 26 markets. However, its aim is to export the e Vitara to more than 100 markets globally.
While Maruti Suzuki might not announce the e Vitara prices today, it will surely reveal the EV ecosystem it has created ahead of its entry into the domestic electric car space. This could involve the carmaker's partnership with different charging solution providers as well as its own charging network the carmaker has previously mentioned about installing at dealerships.
The e Vitara is based on the new Heartect-e platform, developed specifically for EVs. According to the company, the architecture focusses on structural rigidity, improved cabin room and high-voltage system protection. The platform uses a 2,700mm wheelbase and a 5.2-metre turning radius.
Maruti Suzuki will offer the e-SUV with two battery options, 49kWh and 61kWh, using an LFP chemistry pack in a cell-to-pack configuration. According to internal MIDC test data, the 61kWh version delivers a driving range of more than 500km on a single charge. The electric motor is a permanent magnet synchronous unit developing 105.8kW in the 49kWh variant and 128kW in the 61kWh variant, with peak torque rated at 192.5Nm. Transmission duties are handled by a single-speed electric drive.
Drive modes include Eco, Normal and Sport, along with a snow terrain setting. The e-SUV also features an adjustable regenerative braking system to enable a one-pedal driving experience. Thermal management systems have been tested between -30°C and 60°C.
The e Vitara's exterior follows the Nexa design language of 'Crafted Futurism', featuring a polyhedral design, next-gen Matrix LED DRLs, LED projector headlamps, aerodynamic 18-inch alloy wheels and roof-end spoilers.
The cabin uses a digital cockpit layout with a twin-deck floating console. It features a 10.1-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch multi-information display, wireless connectivity, soft-touch materials, multi-colour ambient lighting and a fixed-glass sunroof. A premium audio system from Infinity by Harman is part of the package.
The e Vitara offers ventilated front seats and a 10-way power-adjustable driver seat, which the company claims is best in segment. Rear seats get a 40:20:40 split, and sliding and reclining adjustment.
Safety features include Level 2 ADAS, seven airbags as standard (including driver knee airbag), electronic parking brake, all-disc brakes, e-Call, tyre pressure monitoring and a structural layout that uses over 50% high-tensile steel. An energy-absorbing battery mounting design is part of the protection system.
At the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, Maruti Suzuki announced that it will operate 1,500 EV-enabled service workshops across 1,000 cities.
We expect the e Vitara price in India to start around Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom).
Positioned in the mid-size e-SUV segment, the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara will rival the likes of the Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv.ev, MG ZS EV and VinFast VF6.
