Tata Motors has announced that its premium hatchback, the Altroz, has secured a 5-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP. The rating covers all fuel versions of the car -- petrol, diesel, and even CNG. With this, the Altroz has become India's only CNG-powered car to get a 5-star Bharat NCAP score.
In the crash tests, the Altroz scored 29.65 points out of 32 for adult occupant protection and 44.9 points out of 49 for child safety. This makes it the safest hatchback in the country right now. Back in 2020, the Altroz was the first hatchback to get a 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP.
Launched in May 2025, the new Altroz is built on Tata's ALFA platform with what the company calls a 'Diamond Strength Safety Shield'. The car comes loaded with safety features like six airbags, ESP, ISOFIX child seat mounts, 360-degree camera with blind view monitor, tyre pressure monitoring system, and SOS/breakdown assistance as standard. Features such as rain-sensing wipers, auto headlamps, and cornering fog lamps add to overall driver confidence.
The Altroz also packs premium features like a 10.25-inch Harman infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, voice-enabled sunroof, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, and connected car tech. On the performance front, buyers get multiple powertrains -- petrol, diesel, and twin-cylinder iCNG -- paired with manual, DCA or AMT gearbox options.
The Tata Altroz rivals the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, and Hyundai i20. It is priced between Rs 6,89,000 and Rs 11,29,000 (ex-showroom).
Tata now has one of the widest line-ups of Bharat NCAP 5-star safety-rated cars. Apart from the Altroz models like the Nexon, Curvv, Harrier, Safari, Punch.ev, Nexon.ev, Curvv.ev and Harrier.ev have also secured similar safety ratings.
