Mahindra & Mahindra continued its strong run in the domestic passenger vehicle (PV) market with handsome volumes in September 2025. The homegrown SUV giant beat Hyundai Motor India even as the popular Creta clocked record wholesales during the month.
Mahindra sold 56,233 units in September 2025, logging a growth of 10.13% y-o-y. In comparison, Hyundai's sales grew 0.87% y-o-y at 51,547 units during the month. The Creta posted its highest-ever monthly sales at 18,861 units in September 2025.
Although the Scorpio-maker was ahead of the Creta-maker by 4,686 units in PV wholesales, volumes of both companies were aided significantly by the Goods and Services Tax (GST) rate rationalisation and pent-up demand amid the festive season rush.
Following the GST restructuring, Mahindra reduced the ex-showroom prices of its SUVs by up to Rs 1.56 lakh, while Hyundai announced cuts to the tune of Rs 2.40 lakh on its cars. Both companies also offered additional benefits to enhance their sales.
Company | September 2025 | September 2024 | Growth |
Mahindra | 56,233 units | 51,062 units | 10.13% y-o-y |
Hyundai | 51,547 units | 51,101 units | 0.87% y-o-y |
Mahindra's Automotive Division CEO Nalinikanth Gollagunta said that due to the impetus from GST 2.0 and the preceding weeks' pent-up demand, we have seen robust growth in dealer-reported customer retails during the first nine days of Navaratri, with over 60% growth in the SUV segment, compared to the first nine days of Navaratri last year.
"The surge in festive demand has placed significant constraints on the availability of trailers. We are working to improve dispatches to our dealer network within the constraints," Gollagunta added.
Mahindra offers internal combustion engine (ICE) models like the Bolero, Bolero Neo, XUV 3XO, Thar, Thar Roxx, Scorpio Classic, Scorpio-N and XUV700. Its electric vehicle (EV) portfolio includes the XUV400, BE 6 and XEV 9e.
Hyundai's ICE line-up comprises the Grand i10 Nios, i20, i20 N Line, Aura, Verna, Exter, Venue, Venue N Line, Creta, Creta N Line, Alcazar and Tucson. It sells a couple of EVs -- Creta Electric and Ioniq 5.
For Hyundai, its SUVs contributed 72.39% or 37,313 units to the domestic volumes in September 2025. This was the highest-ever SUV penetration witnessed by the company. Also, the Venue, which is due for a generation change next month, garnered the highest monthly sales in the last 20 months at 11,484 units.
"We extend our sincere gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the transformative GST 2.0 reforms, which have given wings to the aspirations of millions of people around the country. Post announcement of GST 2.0 reforms, Hyundai is witnessing a synergetic alignment of both domestic and export markets now growing in tandem -- a true double-engine growth," the company's Whole-Time Director and Chief Operating Officer Tarun Garg said.
"Our domestic sales in September 2025 stood at 51,547 units, driven by vibrant festive demand and strong customer interest across all segments. We have also witnessed the highest-ever domestic SUV sales penetration in the history of the company at 72.39%, with Creta scoring the highest-ever monthly sales at 18,861 units. The Venue too reported a 20-month high sales volume of 11,484 units in September 2025," Garg added.
