Bajaj Auto is gearing up for the much-anticipated launch of its CNG-powered motorcycle on June 18, 2024. Rajiv Bajaj, managing director of Bajaj Auto, confirmed the imminent rollout of the motorcycle in an exclusive interview with CNBC-TV18 on the sidelines of launching 400cc Pulsar. “The world’s first CNG-powered motorcycle is due next month. It halves the running costs compared to petrol-run bikes. It’s a fantastic innovation,” Bajaj said.

With this upcoming model, Bajaj will be aiming to cater to cost-conscious customers amidst rising fuel prices by introducing the CNG-powered motorcycle. It will be launched in phases, first in Maharashtra and later in states where CNG stations are available.

According to several media reports, the CNG-powered bike is likely to be named Bruzer 125 CNG.

Last month, the Bajaj Auto MD had confirmed to CNBC-TV18 that the new motorcycle will be launched in the first quarter of FY25.

"We believe that a CNG motorcycle should appeal to consumers at each of these displacements points (100cc, 125cc and 150-160cc) and that gives us the opportunity to build a portfolio, as against just one motorcycle," Bajaj had said.

On May 3, Bajaj also shed light on the upcoming products from the brand. He said the Chetak brand of scooters has been growing strongly, adding that the company was selling 3,000 units a month last year and it has this year it has grown to four times that number. Bajaj confirmed that one new Chetak scooter will be launched this month and the company will try to add at least one new scooter every year. He also said that one new triumph will be launched later this year.

The company is also looking to enter the e-rickshaw market, where it has no presence as of now. “It makes a lot of business sense for us but we may have something to show in the future,” Bajaj said.
