Google Glass is gradually making a comeback with its new Google Enterprise Edition, targeting businesses.
X, a research and development subsidiary enterprise of Alphabet Inc. – Google’s parent company has come up with the revamped product.
The new Glass Enterprise Edition packs a more powerful processor and claims to have a better battery life. However, the design and appearance are largely the same.
Google had first unveiled its Augmented Reality product Google Glass in 2013 but stopped its sale in 2015 due to a lukewarm response. The company maintained that it was stopping it due to privacy concerns.
Now the new Enterprise edition targets “workers in fields like manufacturing, logistics, field services and healthcare,” who require information and instruction while their hands are busy.
“We’ve spent the last two years working closely with a network of more than 30 expert partners to build customised software and business solutions for Glass for people in these fields,” writes Jay Kothari, project lead of Glass in a blog piece.
“We first saw signs of Glass’ potential for businesses in the Glass Explorer days,” he adds.
The Glass team would be collaborating with the Google’s Cloud team and other partners to help its customers in making the most of the product, the piece states further.
According to Kothari, more than 50 businesses including DHL, General Electronics, Boeing, Volkswagen as well as many other logistics, manufacturing and healthcare companies are already using Glass at their workplace. The new edition is the result of the firms' feedback received in the last two years.
