Better late than never.
After almost a year when Google introduced fact check in its News search result, Microsoft's Bing has also added the feature to its search engine. The feature will help users find fact checking information on news, major stories, and webpages within the Bing search results.
The newly introduced feature takes help from fact-checking websites like Snopes to notify users if the news is true or false. Microsoft, while introducing the criteria required for the tag to appear in the news stories said that the analysis must be transparent about sources and methods, with citations and references to primary sources included.
“Claims and claim checks must be easily identified within the body of fact-check content. Readers should be able to determine and understand what was checked and what conclusions were reached,” the statement added.
The tag (True or False) will be shown based on the reputation of the site checking the fact as well as ‘other factors’.
As rampant fake news has become a problem, this feature will be crucial for users to be aware of what is wrong and what is actually true.
