Amid fears that crucial evidence from the sites of bomb blasts might have been wiped out as rains lashed the city, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram today said Maharashtra forensic experts have done a "good job" in collecting the relevant forensic evidence.

"Even before I was able to visit here last night, the Maharashtra forensic laboratory has collected the evidence at the (blast) sites. And they have (done) a good job in collecting the relevant forensic evidence," said Chidambaram in a joint conference with Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan held this morning.

Teams of the post-blasts NSG, NIA and Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) were dispatched to the city throughout the last night. These teams, along with Maharashtra ATS and Mumbai Crime branch, were on the job, the Home minister added.

"These teams continue to work to determine the exact nature of the explosives that were used and nature of the trigger if it was a timer or a clock or any other kind of trigger (used for the blasts)," he said, adding "It was not remotely triggered blast."
Soon after the blasts, the sites were cordoned off and barricaded, Chidambaram said, adding "Nobody would be allowed to visit the blast sites. I appeal to people not visit the sites."
At least 21 people were killed and 141 injured in three blasts that rocked Mumbai last evening.
