Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has been awarded the contract of automation of metering and billing (AMR) of high tension industrial consumers in Haryana.

TCS would implement the AMR contract involving 3,200 consumers in 11 districts of the state including Panchkula, Ambala, Yamuna Nagar, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Karnal, Panipat, Sonepat, Rohtak, Jhajjar and Jind, said an official spokesman of power distribution company Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN).

He said that AMR work was to be completed in six months.
The project is based on latest GPRS technology and is of its first kind in Northern India, except Delhi.

Under this ambitious project the GPRS modems will be installed in each of the HT Industrial consumer premises and data of meter will be transferred to server installed in Head office at Panchkula through these modems.

With the implementation of the project, the meter reading of the consumers shall be transferred online to the headquarter.

Due to automatic meter reading, billing and regular data analysis, there will no human intervention and it will be possible to have close watch over the electricity consumption which will help the UHBVN in preventing the losses due to pilferage of power.

It would also ensure accurate billing and saving in manpower. In the existing manual system, the SDO and JEs are required to visit consumer premises every month for meter reading and sealing of meter (s).

Besides Meter reading, the project would cover the transfer of power factor, time of day consumption, tamper events and half load survey data etc.
