Three people were shot at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility in Dallas, and the gunman died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, officials said.
Authorities later identified the shooter as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn. The attack left one person dead and two others injured before Jahn turned the gun on himself, according to law enforcement officials.
Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons confirmed the incident in an interview with CNN, saying, “It could be employees, it could be civilians that were visiting the facility, it could be detainees. At this point, we’re still working through that.”
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said details were still emerging but noted there were “multiple injuries and fatalities.” She added that the motive was not yet clear, though she acknowledged an “uptick of targeting of ICE agents.”
Who is Joshua John?
Authorities have identified Joshua Jahn, 29, as the gunman in the Dallas Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility shooting.
The attack left one person dead and two others injured before Jahn died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, ICE Director Todd Lyons told CNN. Investigators believe he acted as a sniper, targeting migrants in an unmarked ICE transport van.
In a statement, ICE confirmed the shooter had “fired indiscriminately” and said all victims were detainees in ICE custody. No staff members or officers were harmed. According to the Telegraph, Homeland Security is probing whether shots were fired from a nearby rooftop.
Officials revealed at a Wednesday press conference that ammunition recovered near Jahn’s body had “anti-ICE messages” scrawled on it. FBI Director Kash Patel even released a photo showing the words “Anti-ICE” etched onto the rounds.
WFAA reported that the suspect was later found dead on the roof of a nearby immigration lawyer’s office. FBI Dallas Field Office Special Agent in Charge Joe Rothrock said the case is being investigated “as an act of targeted violence.”
