Witnesses said gunshots rang out just as Kirk was about to respond to a question on mass shootings. Attendees scrambled for cover, and several reported seeing him bleeding.
President Donald Trump urged prayers for Kirk in a Truth Social post, writing: "We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot. A great guy from top to bottom. GOD BLESS HIM!"

According to UVU spokeswoman Ellen Treanor, the shooting occurred about 20 minutes into his speech.
Videos shared on social media show Charlie Kirk speaking into a handheld microphone under a white tent bearing the slogans "The American Comeback" and "Prove Me Wrong." Moments later, a single gunshot is heard, and Kirk reaches for his neck with his right hand.
Kirk was on campus to launch his national speaking series, The American Comeback Tour, when the attack occurred. Known for his confrontational campus events and “Prove Me Wrong” debates with students and attendees, his appearances often draw both strong supporters and vocal critics.
FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the agency is closely monitoring developments. “Agents will be on the scene quickly, and the FBI stands in full support of the ongoing response and investigation," Patel said.
