US President Donald Trump claimed that American forces carried out a massive strike on Iran’s Kharg Island, saying key military targets on the strategically important oil export hub were destroyed while warning that the island’s oil infrastructure could also be attacked if Iran disrupts shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
In a message posted on Truth Social on Friday, Trump said US forces had conducted an exceptionally powerful air assault. "The United States Central Command executed one of the most powerful bombing raids in the History of the Middle East, and totally obliterated every MILITARY target in Iran's crown jewel, Kharg Island."
Kharg Island handles the vast majority of Iran’s crude oil exports and sits near the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial maritime route for global energy shipments.
Trump also issued a warning tied to maritime security in the Gulf region. "I have chosen NOT to wipe out the Oil Infrastructure on the Island. However, should Iran, or anyone else, do anything to interfere with the Free and Safe Passage of Ships through the Strait of Hormuz, I will immediately reconsider."
The US president also said Washington planned to move quickly to safeguard shipping routes, adding that the United States would begin escorting oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz "very soon."
Meanwhile, tensions continued to escalate across the region as Iran launched another wave of missile strikes targeting Israel shortly after midnight Saturday, according to Iranian state media. Israeli authorities said air defense systems were activated after missiles were detected, and sirens sounded in several areas, sending residents rushing to shelters. Emergency responders said no casualties were reported following the attack.
Elsewhere, violence intensified along Israel’s northern front. Lebanon’s health ministry said an Israeli strike on a primary healthcare facility in southern Lebanon killed at least 12 medical personnel. Officials described the incident as the second attack on medical services within hours, after an earlier strike on Sawaneh that killed two paramedics associated with Hezbollah and its ally Amal.
The cross-border fighting has intensified since Lebanon was pulled deeper into the conflict last week. Hezbollah launched attacks on Israel following the killing of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in joint US-Israeli strikes.
Hezbollah chief Naim Qassem signaled the group was prepared for a prolonged confrontation, declaring it was ready for a long fight even as Israel warned Lebanon could face escalating damage to its infrastructure.
Israeli strikes continued Friday, including an attack near the southern port city of Sidon that killed eight people in a nearby village, according to Lebanon’s health ministry. Meanwhile, authorities in Qatar said evacuations were underway in certain areas as Iran expanded retaliatory attacks across parts of the Gulf region.
