US President Donald Trump has launched an investigation into whether former President Joe Biden’s 'cognitive decline' was intentionally hidden during his time in office.
In a memo, Trump raised doubts that Bident used an autopen to sign pardons and other pens. Autopen is a machine used to copy person's real signature and US Presidents have used it for many years.
"This conspiracy marks one of the most dangerous and concerning scandals in American history," Trump said in the memo. “The American public was purposefully shielded from discovering who wielded the executive power, all while Biden’s signature was deployed across thousands of documents to effect radical policy shifts.”
Trump directed Attorney General Pam Bondi and White House Counsel David Warrington will be leading the investigation.
Republicans have consistently raised concerns about Joe Biden’s mental health, and recent accounts including a book by CNN’s Jake Tapper suggest that even some Democrats and individuals close to Biden privately questioned his capacity to serve effectively.
Donald Trump’s latest move builds on a broader campaign aimed at undermining Biden’s presidency, supported by GOP leaders and conservative media figures. Critics point to Biden’s limited public engagements and reluctance to give interviews as signs of diminished capability to fulfill the demanding responsibilities of the U.S. presidency.
They further claim that Biden’s inner circle concealed his physical and cognitive decline, made major decisions on his behalf, and relied on an autopen.
