US President Donald Trump visited police officers and troops deployed in the US capital as part of his crime crackdown, telling them they were going to "stay here for a while."
He described the operation as a success during his visit to federal officers involved in the initiative, despite ongoing resident complaints about the tactics being too heavy-handed.
Trump visited the U.S. Park Police headquarters in Southeast Washington, D.C., where he brought pizza and hamburgers as a show of support for the officers.
Addressing several hundred uniformed personnel from various local and federal law enforcement agencies, along with National Guard troops, the president praised their efforts, saying their presence was contributing to a noticeable decline in crime. "It's like a different place," he remarked. "Everybody is safe now."
Speaking outside a US Park Police facility in the Anacostia neighborhood, the Republican leader stated, "We're going to make it safe, and we're going to then go on to other places, but we're going to stay here for a while. We want to make this absolutely perfect."
In a post on TruthSocial, Trump added, "The crime numbers are way down! I just wanted to thank you—you’re doing incredible…"
He mentioned earlier that he would go on patrol with the police and military, but this did not happen.
"One of the things we're going to be redoing is your parks. I'm very good at grass, because I have a lot of golf courses all over the place. I know more about grass than any human being," the billionaire added.
Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth visited troops stationed at Union Station, Washington’s main train terminal, on Wednesday, where they were met with jeers and shouts from protesters.
The visit came a day after Vance faced boos and chants of "Free DC," a reference to Washington’s official designation as the District of Columbia, during his interaction with deployed forces.
A day later, Trump projected confidence in the federal response, telling assembled officers that the city was recovering. "We're going to have the best capital ever," he said.
On Thursday, Trump was accompanied by U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, and Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, known for his role in shaping the administration’s hardline immigration policies.
