Shots were fired outside Serbia’s parliament in Belgrade on Wednesday, leaving one man injured and a tent belonging to supporters of President Aleksandar Vučić set ablaze.

Vučić condemned the incident, describing it as a “terrorist act.”

Local media reported that the injured individual, a 57-year-old man, was shot in the hip and is currently in stable condition. Footage shared by NOVA and confirmed by Reuters shows armed security officers rushing to the tent moments after the shots were fired.

One person has been detained following the shooting and fire. Video from the scene captured a white tent near the parliament suddenly engulfed in flames, with thick smoke rising into the air. Security personnel quickly secured the area and arrested a suspect at the scene.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear. Emergency services responded promptly, transporting the injured man to a nearby hospital. No additional details about his identity or condition have been released.

The tent, one of several erected by Vučić supporters during ongoing anti-government protests this year, was destroyed in the blaze. It remains unknown who fired the shots or how the fire started.

Videos circulating on social media, including one on X, show a man lying on the ground with his hands restrained, surrounded by police. Authorities have not provided official comments regarding the incident.

The shooting comes amid heightened tensions in Belgrade, where protests and confrontations between government supporters and opponents have been frequent. In response, security around the parliament has been increased.
