Pakistani military spokesperson Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry recently spoke at a public gathering, using language that closely mirrored remarks previously made by terrorist Hafiz Saeed.
During a speech reportedly at a university in Pakistan, he commented on India’s recent decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty following a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Referring to the move, he said, “If you block our water, we will choke your breath.”

India suspended parts of the Indus Waters Treaty on April 23, following a terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people. The treaty was brokered by the World Bank in 1960, regulates the sharing and management of the Indus River and its five tributaries between India and Pakistan, and requires both countries to regularly exchange information on water use.
New Delhi has reiterated its position with the statement, “blood and water cannot flow together; talk and terror cannot go together,” signaling a firmer stance against Pakistan’s support for cross-border terrorism.
The suspension was one of the several countermeasures against Islamabad, including “Operation Sindoor” on May 7, which targeted nine terror-related locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.
