A mass shooting in Toronto's Lawrence Heights neighbourhood left one person dead and five others injured late Tuesday night, local authorities confirmed.

Toronto Police and emergency responders rushed to the scene near Flemington and Zachary Roads, close to Ranee Avenue and Allen Road, following reports of gunfire shortly after 8:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, they discovered multiple victims with gunshot wounds.

One man has been confirmed dead and five others injured following a mass shooting in Toronto’s Lawrence Heights area on Tuesday night, police said.

Toronto Police, taking to microblogging site X, stated, “1 male confirmed deceased. 5 people with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds transported to hospital.”

Authorities have not yet released any information regarding suspects.

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow expressed concern over the violence, saying, "Disturbed by news of the shootings in the Lawrence Heights area this evening", on microblogging site X.

She said her office was in touch with Toronto Police and Deputy Mayor Mike Colle.

"My office is in contact with Toronto Police, who are on scene now and investigating, and the local councillor Deputy Mayor Mike Colle". 

“I want to thank the first responders — Toronto Police, Fire and Paramedic Services — for your work on a very busy and challenging scene,” Chow said, noting that police are expected to provide further updates soon.

Police have yet to identify any suspects or reveal a motive behind the attack.

A command post has been established in the area, and a probe is underway.
