Elon Musk, head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), voiced grave concerns about declining birth rates and the future of the US during the second part of his exclusive interview with Fox News chief political anchor Bret Baier on Friday.
Speaking on Special Report, Musk warned that the world's falling birth rates could have catastrophic consequences. “The birth rate is very low in almost every country, and unless that changes, civilisation will disappear,” he said. He cited the US and South Korea as examples, noting that efforts to reverse the trend have so far failed. “Nothing seems to be turning that around. Humanity is dying,” Musk added.

In addition to demographic concerns, Musk expressed apprehension over America's position as the linchpin of Western civilisation. “America is the central column that holds up all of Western civilisation,” he said. “If that column fails, it’s all over. You can’t run off to New Zealand or some other place. It’s over.”
He stressed the need to bolster the country’s strength, warning that “either we strengthen that column and make sure America is strong... or that roof’s coming down.”
However, despite the gravity of his remarks, Musk struck an optimistic note, saying he believes in America’s potential as long as it remains “the land of freedom and opportunity.” He praised President Donald Trump and the DOGE team for their ongoing efforts to safeguard what he described as the “fundamental principles” of freedom.
Musk had earlier appeared on Special Report on Thursday alongside seven DOGE officials — Steve Davis, Joe Gebbia, Aram Moghaddassi, Brad Smith, Anthony Armstrong, Tom Krause, and Tyler Hassen — offering a rare glimpse into the department's behind-the-scenes work.
The team outlined ongoing reforms aimed at streamlining operations across various agencies, including the Internal Revenue Source, the Interior Department, and Social Security.
