An all-female celebrity crew consisting of popstar Katy Perry and Jef Bezos’ fiancée returned to Earth after successfully completing the mission to the edge of space on Monday. Bezos’ Blue Origin launched the crew into the zero-gravity realm from West Texas. The rocket named New Shepard blasted off for the 11-minute trip from West Texas provided unique moments of weightlessness to the crew.
The fully automated flight had ex-NASA engineer Aisha Bowe, scientist Amanda Nguyen, film producer Kerianne Flynn and “CBS Mornings” co-host Gayle King. Perry reportedly broke into a song, albeit not hers, during the mission. A BBC report said that the ‘Fireworks’ singer crooned a beautiful rendition of Louis Armstrong's iconic "What a Wonderful World".

The Monday mission was the 11th human spaceflight for Bezos' Blue Origin. The Washington state-based company was founded by the tech czar back in 2000. Bezos was the first space tourist on Blue Origin's maiden flight in 2021. On Monday also, he was seen accompanying the celebrity crew to the launchpad. "I love this crew!," Bezos said on X just before the launch as he shared a lively clip of the all-female crew talking about what they think about the spaceflight.
After the mission successfully returned to Earth, there were emotional scenes in West Texas. "I have almost no words," film producer Flynn was quoted as saying. The crew travelled to Karman Line, which is a globally recognised altitude from where the space begins. Perry said that she will be writing a song about the adventure.
