Iran’s foreign ministry said it had received indirect messages in recent days through “friendly countries” suggesting a US request for negotiations aimed at ending the ongoing conflict. However, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei rejected claims of active engagement.
"Over the past few days, messages were received through some friendly countries indicating a US request for negotiations aimed at ending the war," Baqaei said, according to the official Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).
He added that there had been no direct contact, stating he "denied any negotiations or talks with the United States during the past 24 days of the imposed war".
The remarks come after Trump said Washington had held “very strong” talks with Iran and expressed optimism that the conflict could end if both sides followed through on negotiations, adding that both were willing to reach a deal.
Separately, Iran’s parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf also dismissed the claims, reiterating that no discussions had taken place.
"No negotiations have been held with the US, and fakenews is used to manipulate the financial and oil markets and escape the quagmire in which the US and Israel are trapped," Ghalibaf said in a post on X.
This comes after US President Donald Trump said Washington has held “very strong” talks with Iran and expressed optimism that the conflict could end if both sides follow through on negotiations, adding that both are willing to make a deal.
