A month after the horrific rape of a British Sikh woman in Oldbury, West Midlands Police are now investigating a second “racially aggravated attack” in northern England, involving a 20-year-old woman believed to be of Indian origin.
Authorities say the incident occurred on Saturday evening in the Park Hall area of Walsall, where police were called following concerns for a woman seen in distress in the street. The West Midlands Police have released CCTV footage of a suspect as part of a public appeal.
The attacker is described as a white man in his 30s, with short hair, wearing dark clothing at the time of the assault.
“This was an absolutely appalling attack on a young woman, and we are doing absolutely everything we can to arrest the person responsible,” said Detective Superintendent (DS) Ronan Tyrer, who is leading the investigation.
DS Tyrer added: “We have teams of officers recovering evidence and building a profile of the attacker so that he can be brought into custody as soon as possible. While we are following multiple lines of enquiry right now, it’s vital that we get to hear from anyone who saw a man acting suspiciously in the area at the time.”
The senior officer also urged members of the public with dashcam or CCTV footage in the surrounding areas to review it and share any relevant material with police. “It may be that you were driving through the area and have dashcam footage, or you have CCTV that we have not yet recovered. Your information could be the vital breakthrough that we need,” he said.
While the identity of the victim has not been officially released to protect her privacy, local community organisations have said she is a Punjabi woman. Sikh Federation UK cited local sources, stating that “the young woman who was subject to a racially aggravated rape in Walsall is a Punjabi woman.”
The group added: “The attacker apparently broke down the door of the house where she was living… West Midlands Police have now had two racially aggravated rapes of young women in their 20s in the last two months and urgently need to find those responsible.”
Although the attack echoes the September incident, police say there is currently no evidence linking the two crimes.
“Deeply shocked and saddened that we are hearing of yet another racially aggravated rape, this time in Walsall. West Midlands Police have reported a rape and assault of a young woman in her 20s in the Park Hall area, described as racially aggravated,” said Preet Kaur Gill, Labour MP for Birmingham Edgbaston.
She added: “The repeated pattern of violence against women in our region, compounded by hate and racial overtones, is deeply disturbing.”

The September case involved a Sikh woman who was raped in Oldbury, under the same police jurisdiction. That attack occurred just before 8:30 AM on September 9, near Tame Road, close to Birmingham. Police described it as a “racially aggravated attack,” and a man in his 30s was allegedly linked to the crime.
Initial police statements indicated that two white male suspects were being sought for the assault, which took place in broad daylight. Some arrests were made, but the suspects were later released on bail as the investigation continued.
The Walsall case marks the second racially aggravated rape reported to West Midlands Police in just two months, highlighting ongoing concerns about racially motivated attacks targeting women in the region.
