Indian Americans have an annual household income exceeding $150,000, placing them at the top of the earning charts among all Asian groups living in the United States. According to a report published in The Hindu, their income is 40 percent higher than that of both Chinese and Japanese Americans.

As of 2013, nearly 25 million Asians were living in the United States, more than double the number recorded in 2000. By 2023, Asians accounted for 7.4% of the U.S. population, a significant increase from 4.2% in 2000 the report cited.

The report further highlighted that among Asians living in the United States, Chinese Americans make up the largest group at 22%, followed closely by Indian Americans at 21% and Filipino Americans at 19%.

Vietnamese Americans account for 9%, while Korean Americans and Japanese Americans represent 8% and 7%, respectively. Pakistani Americans make up 3% of the Asian population in the US.

Over time, the share of immigrants within most Asian communities in the U.S. has declined. In 2000, immigrants made up 63% of the Asian population, but by 2023, this figure had dropped to 54%. Among Indian Americans, the immigrant share decreased from 72% the report added.

The report also highlighted educational attainment among Asians in the U.S., showing that 83% of Taiwanese Americans held at least a bachelor's degree, followed by 77% of Indian Americans. In contrast, communities such as Bhutanese, Burmese, Laotian, and Cambodian Americans had the lowest educational attainment rates.

This educational disparity was mirrored in income levels. Indian American households had the highest median annual income among all Asian groups at $151,200, followed by Taiwanese American households. Despite 69% of Mongolian Americans holding a bachelor's degree or higher—the third highest rate among all groups—their median household income was the lowest at just $54,300.
