Ghislaine Maxwell, the convicted associate of Jeffrey Epstein, told a senior Justice Department official that she never saw US President Donald Trump engage in any improper or illegal behavior during his association with Epstein. This statement comes from a transcript released by the Justice Department.

“I never witnessed the President in any inappropriate setting in any way,” Maxwell stated. “The President was never inappropriate with anybody,” she added, according to the transcript made public last month.

Maxwell also described Trump as “always very cordial" and “very kind" to her, calling him a “gentleman in all respects". She said, “I admire his extraordinary achievement in becoming the president now. And I like him, and I’ve always liked him.

The transcripts and audio recordings cover two days of interviews in late July between Ghislaine Maxwell and Todd Blanche, a former Trump defense lawyer who was appointed to the No. 2 position at the Justice Department, according to the New York Times.

Afterward, she was moved from a low-security federal prison in Florida to a minimum-security facility in Texas, a transfer neither her attorney nor the Bureau of Prisons has explained.

The interview occurred amid renewed public scrutiny over Trump’s ties to Epstein and the Justice Department’s choice not to release all documents related to the Epstein investigation—a decision that has faced criticism from congressional Democrats as well as some of Trump’s conservative supporters.

Regarding Epstein’s death, Maxwell stated, “I do not believe he died by suicide, no. In prison, where I am, they will kill you or they will pay somebody, a prisoner, to kill you for $25 worth of commissary.”

Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year sentence for her 2021 conviction on sex trafficking charges, recalled possibly meeting Trump in 1990 through her father, newspaper magnate Robert Maxwell.
