Vietnam is gearing up to transform its image from a short-term tourist destination to a thriving hub for international investment, business, and culture. In a landmark policy proposal, the Southeast Asian nation is planning to introduce a 10-year Golden Visa to attract foreign investors, skilled professionals, and long-term tourists, particularly from growing markets like India.

What Is Vietnam’s Proposed Golden Visa?

As part of a broader strategy to boost international mobility and economic partnerships, Vietnam is expected to launch a long-term visa scheme offering 5 to 10 years of residency, with the option of renewal. The Golden Visa is being designed to invite high-net-worth individuals, entrepreneurs, retirees, and digital nomads seeking a more permanent base in Southeast Asia.

Proposed Visa Categories: Golden, Investor, and Talent Visas

According to recommendations by the Vietnam Tourism Advisory Board (TAB), the government may introduce three main long-term visa options:

Golden Visa: Valid for 5 to 10 years, with extensions possible. Aimed at long-term tourists, retirees, and cultural contributors.

Investor Visa: Proposed as a 10-year visa with a roadmap to permanent residency after 5 years, for those investing in Vietnam’s economy, infrastructure, or tourism.

Talent Visa: A 5-year visa for highly skilled professionals in fast-growing fields like technology, finance, and the arts, with a simplified renewal process.

Where Will the Golden Visa Be Implemented?

If approved, the visa schemes are expected to first roll out in major urban and tourist hotspots like:

  • Phú Quốc
  • Ho Chi Minh City
  • Hà Nội
  • Đà Nẵng

These locations already attract a strong influx of international visitors and are seen as ideal testing grounds for long-term visa initiatives.

All-Digital Application Process Expected

To improve accessibility, applications for the golden visa are expected to be fully online, removing the need for in-person embassy visits. This move would align Vietnam with global trends in digital visa processing and make the country more attractive to remote workers and expats.

Short-Term Travel to Vietnam Also Eased

While the long-term visa is still in the planning stage, Vietnam has already streamlined visa procedures for tourists and business travellers, making short-term trips easier and more efficient through digitised and simplified processes.

Why Vietnam?

Vietnam’s proposed Golden Visa arrives amid an economic boom and growing international interest in the country’s affordable lifestyle, natural beauty, and emerging tech and tourism sectors. These visa reforms, if implemented, will position Vietnam as a top destination in Southeast Asia for investment, relocation, and long-term exploration.

Whether you're a startup founder, remote professional, or world traveler seeking a new base, Vietnam’s upcoming golden visa could open the door to long-term possibilities in a country brimming with opportunity.
