UAE 2025 Visa Update: Four new visit visas unveiled for AI specialists, tourists, event-goers, and cruise travelers, along with key residency and humanitarian visa reforms.

The UAE has unveiled a major update to its visa and residency system, introducing four new visit visa categories designed to attract global talent, boost tourism, and strengthen its growing entertainment and technology industries. Announced by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP), the changes aim to improve quality of life, support economic growth, and address humanitarian needs. The move is part of the UAE’s broader vision to become a global hub for innovation, culture, and tourism.

The 4 New UAE Visit Visa Categories

1. Visit Visa for Artificial Intelligence Specialists

Targeted at AI experts, this visa allows visits to the UAE for a specific period and can be issued as a single-entry or multiple-entry permit. Applicants must provide a letter from a sponsoring or hosting entity.

2. Visit Visa for Entertainment Purposes

This visa enables foreigners to enter the UAE for a limited time to participate in or enjoy entertainment-related activities, reinforcing the country’s position as a global cultural destination.

3. Visit Visa for Cruise Ship or Yacht Travellers

Visitors arriving via cruise ships, luxury yachts, or leisure boats can now apply for this visa, provided the UAE is a scheduled stop and the host or sponsor is officially licensed.

4. Visit Visa for Event Attendees

Designed for foreigners attending festivals, exhibitions, conferences, seminars, or cultural, religious, or sports events, this visa requires a letter from the hosting entity along with event details and tickets.

Key Updates to Existing UAE Visa Rules

Alongside the new categories, the UAE has introduced significant updates to its existing visa and residency framework, aimed at improving flexibility, addressing humanitarian needs, and providing clearer structures for visitors and residents.

Humanitarian Residency Permit: This permit is available for individuals from countries affected by wars, natural disasters, or political unrest. Valid for one year and extendable under certain conditions, it also provides stability for vulnerable groups in need of humanitarian support.

Residency for Widows and Divorcees: Foreign widows and divorcees now have a clear pathway to remain in the UAE. Residency can be obtained within six months of the spouse’s death or divorce, provided financial and housing conditions are met. Custodial mothers may also extend residency to their children.

Visit Visa for Relatives and Friends: UAE residents can sponsor friends or relatives up to the third degree, with eligibility determined by the sponsor’s financial standing. This framework ensures families remain connected and offers structured support for welcoming loved ones.

Business Exploration Visa: Aimed at entrepreneurs and professionals, this visa now requires proof of financial solvency, ownership of shares in an overseas company, or documented professional practice. This ensures that serious investors are supported in exploring business opportunities in the UAE.

Truck Drivers’ Visa: To support the logistics sector, foreign truck drivers can now obtain visas for single or multiple trips, provided sponsorship comes from a licensed freight or transport company. Applicants must also meet health insurance and financial guarantee requirements.

New General Rule for All UAE Visas

A significant reform is the introduction of a uniform rule across all visa categories. Every visa will now clearly specify the authorised stay period and the conditions for renewal or extension, providing applicants with greater transparency and reducing the risk of overstays. This framework also allows authorities to monitor visas more effectively, ensuring a streamlined and accountable process.

These reforms reflect the UAE’s balanced approach to immigration—combining opportunities for entrepreneurs, professionals, and tourists, while providing protection and support for vulnerable groups such as widows, divorcees, and individuals affected by crises worldwide.

For detailed eligibility criteria and step-by-step application guidance, travellers and residents are encouraged to consult official UAE government portals or seek assistance from licensed immigration consultants.
