From Goa to Mumbai: Sunburn Festival 2025 Sets the Stage for a New Beat in the Maximum City

India’s biggest electronic music festival is turning a new page in its vibrant history. After years of lighting up Goa’s coastline, Sunburn Festival is set to debut in Mumbai this December—ushering in a new era for EDM enthusiasts across the country.

The much-anticipated three-day event will take place from December 19 to 21, 2025, according to an official announcement. While the artist lineup remains under wraps, organisers promise a signature Sunburn experience—three days of pulsing beats, dazzling visuals, and unforgettable performances.

Explaining the move, Atul Patne, Principal Secretary of Tourism, Government of Maharashtra, shared: "Maharashtra has always been at the forefront of shaping India's cultural and entertainment economy and music is a vital part of that vision. By bringing landmark experiences like the Sunburn Festival to Mumbai, we are actively building a robust music tourism ecosystem, one that attracts global attention, fuels local enterprise and positions our state as a thriving destination for next-generation cultural experiences."

A Journey from Goa to Mumbai

Launched in 2007 on the beaches of Vagator, Sunburn quickly grew into one of Asia’s most recognised electronic music festivals. After a brief stint in Pune (2016–2018), the festival returned to its Goan roots—until now.

In recent years, however, the Goan leg of Sunburn has faced mounting resistance, from both residents and local authorities. Growing concerns about noise, crowd management, and infrastructure strain led to regulatory roadblocks. Against this backdrop, Mumbai—India’s buzzing cultural capital—emerged as a natural next step.

Whether the city’s fast-paced, urban energy can recreate the laid-back magic of Goa remains to be seen. But what’s clear is this: Mumbai is ready to welcome Sunburn with open arms.

A Festival Reinvented

By relocating to Mumbai, Sunburn enters an exciting new chapter. The city’s vast music-loving population, cutting-edge venues, and global connectivity offer a fresh canvas. For attendees, the festival promises a blend of the familiar and the unexpected—EDM under city skies, rather than by the sea.

For Maharashtra, the move is also strategic. It signals a clear intent to tap into the lucrative world of music tourism, positioning the state as a serious contender for global cultural events.

What’s Next?

While the festival’s location is confirmed, much else remains under wraps—including the full artist lineup and venue details. Still, for thousands of Sunburn loyalists, the countdown has already begun.

If you’ve never experienced the festival before, this might be the perfect year to dive in. And if you’re a Goa regular wondering what Mumbai’s version might feel like—only one way to find out.
