Strategic Boost: First-of-Its-Kind Underwater Road Tunnel Beneath Brahmaputra in Assam May Get Cabinet Nod Soon

The proposed underwater road tunnel across the Brahmaputra River in Assam is set to mark a major milestone in the infrastructure development of the state of Assam. The proposed tunnel will have a length of about 33.7 kilometres, and it will have a connection between Numaligarh of Golaghat district to Gohpur of Sonitpur district. The project is intended to be a greenfield one, and it will offer a direct and efficient passage over the Brahmaputra without requiring the use of ferry services, and will save a lot of time on travelling.

The tunnel will be constructed with a tunnel crown that is approximately 32 meters below the riverbed.
