Commuters using national highways will soon pay a little more for the FASTag Annual Pass. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has increased the annual pass fee by Rs 75, taking the total cost from Rs 3,000 to Rs 3,075 for the financial year 2026–27.

The revised fee will come into effect from April 1, 2026, and will apply to private, non-commercial vehicles using highways and expressways across the country.

What is the FASTag Annual Pass?

The FASTag Annual Pass is designed for non-commercial vehicles such as cars, jeeps and vans. It allows users to make a one-time payment and travel through toll plazas without repeatedly recharging their FASTag wallet.

The pass was first introduced by the National Highways Authority of India on August 15, 2025, at a cost of Rs 3,000. It offers validity for either one year or up to 200 toll crossings, whichever comes earlier.

With the latest revision, the cost will now be Rs 3,075 from April 1. According to NHAI, the change has been made in line with the provisions of the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008.

More than 56 lakh users already

The FASTag Annual Pass has quickly gained popularity among highway commuters. NHAI said that more than 56 lakh users have already opted for the scheme since its launch.

The pass can be used at around 1,150 toll plazas located on national highways and national expressways across India. It helps frequent travellers avoid the hassle of topping up their FASTag balance again and again.

How to buy the FASTag Annual Pass

Buying the pass is simple and can be done online in just a few steps.

Users can purchase it through the Rajmarg Yatra App or on the official website of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

To activate the pass:

  • Enter your vehicle registration number.
  • Provide your FASTag ID.
  • Make the payment through UPI, debit card, credit card or net banking.

Once the payment is completed, the annual pass gets linked to your existing FASTag and is usually activated within about two hours. Users receive an SMS confirming the activation.

What is FASTag?

FASTag is an RFID-based tag placed on a vehicle’s windshield. It allows toll payments to be automatically deducted from a linked prepaid wallet or bank account when a vehicle passes through a toll plaza.

The system helps reduce long queues at toll booths and makes highway travel faster and more convenient.

With the annual pass option gaining traction among regular highway users, the revised fee from April 2026 will slightly increase the cost but will continue to offer a convenient payment option for frequent travellers.
